La Boîte Café

My favorite macarons in town! We had pistachio chocolate, passion fruit and I don't remember what the red one was. The passion fruit macaron was my favorite! They go perfect with either unsweetened tea or coffee to go with them, because they're pretty sweet. The only downside of the place is that you have to sit outside and during Texas summer you know how that feels... :)

South Congress Cafe

South Congress Seafood Parfait South Congress Seafood Parfait

I love walking on South Congress but never noticed this restaurant before: South Congress Cafe. When we got in, they said there was a 20% discount if you sat in the bar, so that's what we did. The food was delicious, the portion was generous, and the staff, friendly.
My friend and I shared a South Congress Seafood Parfait (market fresh fish, shrimp and bay scallops marinated ceviche-style in lime juice with fine diced chilés and veggies on a bed of fresh guacamole with pepitas and crispy flour tortilla strips) and a South Congress Burger (certified black angus beef ground fresh daily, mesquite grilled to your liking and served on a fresh baked roll with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, homemade french fries and smoked gouda, crispy prosciutto & caramelized onion burger). The former one was my favorite. The only downside was that the food was so good that I ended up overeating... :)

Indian Food: Bombay Express

Samosas (above)

This is one of my favorite Indian restaurants in Austin. They're perfect if you're vegetarian. I'm a meat lover, but never miss meat whenever I eat there. I usually like to order the weekend sampler, since I never know what to order and like to have a variety of dishes. I know, I know, I'm a terrible blogger... don't remember the name of most of the dishes. :(

Chinese Food

This is definitely my favorite Chinese restaurant in town. Today my husband and I had Crispy Noodles with Beef and Spicy Fish Fillet. I also liked their Taiwanese Stir Fried Rice Noodles, Singapore Fried Rice Noodles, Stir Fried Flat Rice Noodles With Beef. I've been there during the week and also on weekends and they're always crowded. I also noticed that a lot of Chinese people like that place. That must mean the natives must be okay with their food. They have good food in generous portions, are also fast and have reasonable prices.

Japanese Food

We had been craving sushi and I had heard from a friend that Sushi Zushi had good food at reasonable price. So we decided to give it a try. The menu was HUGE, but the server helped us out. We ordered tuna and eel sashimi (forgot to take a picture of the latter one), beef yakisoba and beef yakiudon. Like many Japanese dishes, the noodles were quite sweet. Overall the food was okay, but the fish was fresh.

Cajun Food

We live really close to Mama Roux and had been wanting to try their food for a while... I'm glad we finally did! We had a great experience there! I just loved the food! When you go, don't forget to save room for dessert. :)

Fondue!

My lovely husband took me to The Melting Pot for our 2nd year anniversay celebration - thanks honey! I was so excited to have fondue! I hadn't had it in at least 10 years.
We started with the Traditional Swiss Cheese Fondue (Grùyere and Emmenthaler Swiss cheeses, white wine, a touch of garlic, nutmeg, fresh lemon, and Kirschwasser) - delicious and very filling!

Then we had the Fondue Bourguignonne (The European-style of cooking in cholesterol-free canola oil served with our signature sesame and tempura fondue batters) with Signature Selection (choice tenderloin, shrimp, teriyaki marinated choice sirloin, boneless breast of chicken and fresh fish fillet). We didn't really like the any of the batters. Actually, I don't know if the problem was the batters or if the temperature wasn't high enough. The teriyaki marinated meat was very good.
Next time time we want to try the Fondue Court Bouillon (a seasoned vegetable broth that is full of flavor while low in sodium, and cholesterol-free).

We were so full that we didn't have a chance to try the chocolate fondue this time. Maybe we'll go back next year, since they're a bit pricey. :)
