Summer in Austin...

Something very austinish...
Some people wonder what makes Austin such a weird city. Indeed, one
could live here without noticing anything too different for a while.
Then you run into this.
To give you some context, these days I work at a client site in the
Capitol area of the city, where most buildings are state agencies. So
it's about as buttoned down as it gets in the area. And I was getting
some air, walking around the block where I work, and then did a
double-take on this.
And all I could think was, "man, I wish I had thought of this first!"
Have a weird Monday.

Cafe Mangu.. Caribbean Bistro
We ordered "churrasco argentino" (beef) and"lechon asado" (pork). They were both delicious! The garlicky sauce they serve with the plantains for appetizer is also very yummy!

The Upper Crust
The name is a little pretentious, I know! I went there for lunch... the pastrami sandwich was good but the ham and cheese quiche was from the morning, so it was a little stale... I tried their currant scone and was a little disappointed. The marzipan pocket and cinnamon roll (best seller) were really yummy.

Central Market
Panini sandwich-Cuban press and lasagna. Both tasted great, but my lasagna was a little cooled off. :(

Chuy's
The best of their menu are:
Chicka-chicka-boom-boom: Chicken enchiladas with a Boom Boom sauce. The sauce is amazing. If you are tempted but not sure, see if the waiter will bring you a bowl of "Boom Boom" sauce to dip your chips in.
Chuychanga: A fried flour tortilla filled with chicken, cheese, cilantro & green chiles, garnished with sour cream and your choice of sauce.(This is the most popular dish amongst my friends).
Elvis Green Chile Fried Chicken: Tender chicken breast breaded with Lay's Potato Chips, deep fried and smothered in Green Chile Sauce and cheddar cheese, served with green chile rice & refried beans.
